WOOL!

Se ancora non ne avete sentito parlare (e ne dubito 😌), sono super felice di presentarvi il mio nuovo amico Wool!
Wool è la prima opera collettiva itinerante ed è nato da un’idea di Yarn Bombing Trivento, come grido di protesta pacifico contro la discriminazione, per dimostrare che per crescere abbiamo bisogno degli altri e che le diversità sono una grande risorsa.
Chi riceve Wool sceglie di prendersene cura e di aggiungere all’opera un piccolo pezzo lavorato a maglia o uncinetto. Poi lo consegna a mano a qualcun altro che ha il desiderio di prendere parte al progetto.
Il viaggio di Wool è iniziato a Trivento, in Molise, per poi raggiungere la Campania ed il Lazio, ma il suo percorso è appena all’inizio! Daniela Pavone me lo ha consegnato qui a Roma, ora lo arricchirò con un pezzetto realizzato da me e tra qualche giorno avrete la possibilità di partecipare all’estrazione per diventare il prossimo custode di Wool!

If you haven’t heard of it yet, I’m glad to introduce you to my new friend Wool!
Wool is the first traveling collective artwork ever, signed by Yarn Bombing Trivento.
It is a peaceful cry of protest against discrimination, that shows we need others to grow and that diversity is a great resource.
Those who receive Wool choose to take care of it and add a small knitted or crochet piece to the artwork. Then they hand it over to someone else who wants to take part in the project.
Wool’s journey began in Trivento, in Molise, then reached Campania and Lazio, but its journey is just beginning! Daniela Pavone handed it over to me here in Rome, now I’m going to add my piece and in the next few days you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a draw to become the next keeper of Wool!

Dal 23 al 26 settembre 2021 torna a Roma il consueto appuntamento autunnale con Abilmente, il salone delle idee creative! Anche l’associazione Yarn Bombing Trivento parteciperà all’evento e sta preparando alcune divertenti iniziative per trascorrere insieme a voi piacevoli momenti.
Uno dei progetti prevede la costruzione di un grande photo booth dedicato alla fiera, che verrà decorato con il logo di Abilmente, ovviamente lavorato all’uncinetto!
In questo post trovate lo schema che ho creato per l’occasione, da seguire per realizzare il vostro logo e partecipare all’installazione collettiva.

Camera roll scarf

If you answered YES to both questions, I’m sure you will enjoy this fun camera roll crochet scarf!
I worked on this project for a long time (it was part of my WIP mountain…) and finally got a bit of spare time to write the pattern, that is now ready to be shared with you.
I used one of my favourite sport weight yarn, Lane Cervinia Capinera. The yarn is budget friendly and washable and comes in so many gorgeous shades. I chose a black and grey colour combination.
Pattern comes both in US and Italian crochet terms too.
So let’s start crocheting!
Materials:
Lane Cervinia CAPINERA yarn (50 g/1 oz 3/4; 150 m/164 yds each skein) in following colors:
- black (2 balls)
- grey (4 balls)
You can use any sport weight yarn to achieve a similar effect.
E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook.
Tapestry needle.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
st = stitch
rep = repeat
prev = previous
SCARF
With black
Ch 33.
Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, 30 dc, turn.
Row 2: ch 3, 30 dc, turn.
Change to grey
Row 3-19: ch 3, 30 dc, turn.
Chenge to black
Row 20-21: ch 3, 30 dc, turn.
Rep from row 3 to 21 11 times.
Don’t break yarn. Now you’re working on one side of the scarf.
[ch 2, hdc along the side of the scarf, ch 3, turn.
3 dc, ch 5, leave unworked 5 hdc of the prev row, dc in the next 3 hdc of the prev row.
Rep from * to * until you reach the end of the scarf, ch 3, turn and dc along the side scarf.

Questo progetto ha fatto parte per molto tempo della mia montagna dei progetti in corso e finalmente ho trovato un po’ di tempo libero per completarla e scrivere lo schema.
Per realizzarla ho scelto uno dei miei filati preferiti, la lana Capinera di Lane Cervinia, che è lavabile in lavatrice, economica e ha una cartella colori molto ampia. Ho scelto una combinazione di grigio e nero.

A collective artwork to raise awareness about Social Phobia

If you already follow my blog, you know that for the Milan edition of Yarn Bombing Festival 2021, a very special collective artwork will be created and it will be composed of eyes made by artists from all over the world.
Why eyes?
The project aims to express closeness to those suffering from ‘Social Anxiety Disorder’, and raise awareness to this topic.
Social Anxiety Disorder, also known as Social Phobia, is the condition of marked discomfort and fear that an individual experiences in social situations in which there is the possibility of being judged by others, for fear of being embarrassed, of appearing ridiculous and being humiliated in front of others.
Common situations such as having a conversation, being observed while eating or drinking, meeting unknown people or speaking in public, turn into possible scenarios of embarrassment, humiliation, anxiety and fear.
The person fears that will act in such a way as to be criticized and it is so that the opinion of others assumes an extremely negative connotation, to the point of conditioning every aspect of itself and creating a strong personal discomfort.
The thought of many eyes on oneself, quick to judge, criticize and denigrate, generates fear of acting and living.
To heal it’s not enough to ‘make an effort’ but psychotherapy and sometimes pharmacological treatments too are needed.

Se seguite già questo blog, saprete che per l’edizione speciale di Yarn Bombing Festival 2021 di Milano verrà realizzata un’opera collettiva molto particolare, composta da occhi realizzati da artisti di tutto il mondo.
Perché gli occhi?
Il progetto vuole esprimere vicinanza a chi soffre del ‘Disturbo d’Ansia Sociale’, sensibilizzare e spingere le persone ad approfondire questo argomento.
Il Disturbo d’Ansia Sociale, anche definito come Fobia Sociale, è la condizione di disagio e paura marcata che un individuo sperimenta in situazioni sociali nelle quali vi è la possibilità di essere giudicato dagli altri, per timore di mostrarsi imbarazzato, di apparire ridicolo, incapace ed essere umiliato di fronte agli altri.
Situazioni comuni come l’avere una conversazione, incontrare persone sconosciute, essere osservati mentre si mangia o si beve, tenere un discorso di fronte ad altri, si trasformano in possibili scenari di imbarazzo, umiliazione, ansia e paura.
La persona teme che agirà in modo tale da essere criticata ed è così che il parere degli altri assume una connotazione estremamente negativa, al punto da condizionare ogni aspetto di sé e da creare un forte disagio personale.
Comune è il pensiero costante di un ventaglio di occhi puntati su di sé, occhi pronti a giudicare, a criticare, a denigrare. Questo genera paura di agire, paura di vivere.
Per guarire non basta ‘sforzarsi’ ma serve la psicoterapia e in alcuni casi anche una cura farmacologica.

Collective artwork for Yarn Bombing Festival 2021

This year a special edition of the Yarn Bombing Festival will take place in Milan, in the famous Lambrate district. The event is organized by Yarn Bombing Trivento, Formidabile Lambrate Hub / Art and the Made in Lambrate association.
Daniela and Lucia of Yarn Bombing Trivento asked me to collaborate with them, creating the pattern to make a crocheted eye, which will be part of a collective artwork that will be exhibited during the “Yarn Bombing Festival 2021 Milan Edition”.

Fettuccine Alfredo

When I was a child, I loved watching my grandma while rolling pasta dough by hand. I still remember the sequence of movements she made, it looked like a dance. As a good Emilian, she often made homemade pasta and on holidays our table was always a culinary triumph made of fettuccine and cappelletti. The fettuccine were rigorously seasoned with ragu.
Some time ago, I learned of the existence of a very famous Italian dish: the “Fettuccine Alfredo”. I can’t hide I thought: “Fettuccine what?!?”.
I online looked for the recipe and found that the fettuccine Alfredo are simply seasoned with butter and Parmesan. Abroad it’s known as a typical dish of Italian cooking, although its name, taken from the restaurateur Alfredo Di Leia, is almost completely unknown to Italian people. Italians call it “Fettuccine burro e parmigiano”.
Since I love pasta seasoned with butter and Parmesan, and a few days ago I made homemade crochet fettucine, this photo is a homage to Alfredo, my granny and Italy.
*Special note*
To make the crocheted fettuccine, I used some cotton my sweet nana had pulled out from an old jumper long time ago, to recycle the yarn.

Quando ero bambina, amavo osservare mia nonna mentre faceva la sfoglia. Ricordo ancora la sequenza dei movimenti che faceva per impastare, sembrava quasi una danza. Da brava emiliana, preparava spesso la pasta fatta in casa e nei giorni di festa la tavola era sempre un trupidio di fettuccine e cappelletti. Le fettuccine erano rigorosamente condite con il ragù.
Qualche tempo fa, sono venuta a conoscenza dell’esistenza di un piatto italiano molto famoso: le “Fettuccine Alfredo”. Non nascondo di aver pensato: “Fettuccine che?!?”.
Cercando la ricetta online, ho scoperto che le fettuccine Alfredo sono semplicemente condite con burro e parmigiano. Sembra che all’estero siano un piatto simbolo dell’italianità, sebbene il nome, dato loro dal ristoratore Alfredo Di Leia, che le ha riscoperte nel 1908, sia praticamente sconosciuto a noi italiani, che lo chiamiamo “Fettuccine burro e parmigiano”.
Dato che amo la pasta in bianco e che qualche giorno fa ho realizzato fettucine fatte in casa all’uncinetto, ho voluto omaggiare Alfredo, mia nonna e l’italianità con questa foto.
*Curiosità*
Per realizzare le fettuccine, ho usato il cotone di un vecchio maglione che la mia dolce nonnina aveva sfilato moltissimo tempo fa, per riciclarne il filato.

Homemade crocheted Fettuccine recipe

During these lockdown days, many people are rediscovering the pleasure of cooking. Our social media walls are full of tempting photos of homemade food, sometimes with useful recipes attached too.
Since I don’t like cooking, but love eating and crocheting things, here is my simple recipe to make homemade crocheted fettuccine.
Pattern is very easy and fast, you just need some yellow cotton and a D size crochet hook.
*Lockdown Tip *
If you don’t have the yellow cotton at home to make egg fettuccine, you can use the green one to make the spinach version, or the red one for the tomato version, black for the squid ink and so on. Let your imagination run free!

Dato che non amo cucinare, ma amo mangiare e fare cose all’uncinetto, ho realizzato queste fettuccine fatte in casa all’uncinetto, e lascio qui la mia semplice ricetta per riprodurle. Lo schema è molto facile e veloce, basterà avere un po’ di cotone giallo e un uncinetto di misura 3 mm.

Se non avete in casa il colore giallo per fare le fettuccine all’uovo, potrete usare il verde per farle agli spinaci, rosso al pomodoro, nero al nero di seppia, e così via. Spazio alla fantasia!

FETTUCCINE
Terminology: US American crochet
Ingredients:
2 ply yellow cotton yarn.
Tools:
D/11 (3.0 mm) crochet hook.
Tapestry needle.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
Make 3:
151 ch, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the remaining ch.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Roll the fettuccine around your hand, shaping them to form a little nest.
Make as many as you want, depending on how hungry you are 🙂

Avviare 151 cat, mma nella terza cat a partire dall’uncinetto e in tutte le restanti cat.

Arrotolare la fettuccina a nido.

Butterflies for SMA Families Onlus

I made these butterflies in collaboration with Yarn Bombing Trivento, for the Yarn Bombing Festival 2020, that will take place next August in the beautiful town of Trivento, Italy.
They will be part of a collective installation, which will be exhibited on the occasion of the YBF 2020. The proceeds from the sale of butterflies will be entirely donated to charity to the SMA Onlus Families association, whose symbol is a butterfly.
SMA is the acronym for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants. The SMA Onlus Families association takes care of the families of children affected by this terrible disease.
The more butterflies there are, the greater the proceeds from their sale will be.

Ho realizzato queste farfalle in collaborazione con Yarn Bombing Trivento, in vista dello Yarn Bombing Festival 2020, che si terrà il prossimo agosto nella splendida Trivento, in Molise.
Faranno parte di un’installazione collettiva, che verrà esposta in occasione dello YBF 2020. Il ricavato della vendita delle farfalle, verrà devoluto interamente in beneficenza all’associazione Famiglie SMA Onlus, il cui simbolo è proprio una farfalla.
SMA è l’acronimo di atrofia muscolare spinale, una malattia delle cellule nervose del midollo spinale, quelle da cui partono i segnali diretti ai muscoli. Colpisce i muscoli volontari usati per attività quotidiane quali andare carponi, camminare, controllare il collo e la testa, deglutire. L’associazione si occupa di sostenere le famiglie dei bambini affetti da questa terribile malattia.
Più le farfalle saranno numerose, maggiore potrà essere il ricavato della loro vendita.

FINISHING
Sew the body onto the center of the wings. Fold a small piece of thread in half and sew it on the high end of the body to create the antennae.
Your butterfly is ready to fly to Trivento!

CONFEZIONE
Cucire il corpo al centro delle ali. Piegare a metà un piccolo pezzo di filo e cucirlo sull’estremità alta del corpo, per creare le antenne.

This is my representation of the Coronavirus, you can call it Mr Crown.
These are very strange days, but I’m strongly convinced that the measures the Italian government is taking are right and must be observed in every respect.
But WE ALL MUST collaborate.
WE ALL MUST make sacrifices and respect the rules that are imposed on us.
WE ALL MUST respect our neighbor and avoid spreading the infection.
WE ALL MUST be responsible and MUST work together to get out of this situation.
WE ALL MUST strive to overcome this unprecedented situation.
